Canadians
Canadian citizens are welcome to visit Chile without a visa for a period of 90 days. However as of July 1st. 1998, there is a US$ 132.00 one time fee (payable in cash) on Canadian tourists arriving to any airport in Chile. This is based on the reciprocity principle, given that Canadian authorities do require a visa and charge the same amount to chilean tourists traveling to Canada. A valid Passport is mandatory.
Upon arrival, a tourist card will be issued and stamped with the date of' arrival by Immigration authorities (Policía Internacional)
Listed below are the visa requirements for Canadians travelling to Chile in a status other than tourists or business.
Valid Passport (Valid al least for the term of the visa)
Health Certificate issued by any doctor stating that the applicant is in good health and free of communicable diseases.
Police Clearance Certificate. (The Consulate will provide a letter to this effect)
Four recent passport photographs
a) Student Visa: It is necessary to present, in addition to the documents listed above, an enrollment certificate from any School or University in Chile. However, this visa does not allow the student to work. This visa is good for a maximum of one year and is renewable in Chile.
b) Temporary Resident Visa for those who qualify: In addition to the above mentioned documents, proof of financial security must be presented. This visa is
good for a maximum of one year, renewable in Chile and allows the applicant to work.
c) Working Visa: It is necessary to present a Certified Notary Contract signed by both the employer or his representative in Chile and the applicant, together with the documents mentioned above. (The contract can be presented directly in Chile to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs). This 'visa has a maximum validity of two years and can be renewed in Chile.
The authorization for the visas described in letters a), b) and c) are issued by the Immigration Department in Chile (Ministerio del Interior-Departamento de Inmigración).
The Consulate only facilitates the procedure but does not provide the authorization.
